Pre-Valentine's Day meeting - 2014-02-11

Our agenda didn't survive initial contact with the meeting. Our agenda was almost complete, but when we found out that our Toastmaster and Table Topics Master couldn't attend, Rachael stepped up as Toastmaster, Erik added Table Topics Master to his timer role, Rana switched from General Evaluator to speech evaluator, and Percita took on the role of general evaluator. Like troupers, we mastered the agenda change project.

Now Rachael brought the meeting under control and we moved into the rest of the meeting.

Erik presented Valentine's Day themed topics. He asked:

  • Chris about chocolate
  • Percita about her favourite Valentine’s Day

  • Valerie about her plans for Valentine’s Day

  • Firoozeh if Valentine’s Day was necessary

  • Rachael what she think’s/feels about Valentine’s Day

  • Paula about puppy love

  • Rana if she could love someone to the bottom of your heart

Paula then presented the second speech from her Competent Communicator manual. Her speech was about radical liberty and she used Don Juan as the theme of the speech. She compared the perception of Don Juan as a gentle seducer of women (a Latin lover type), to the reality of the violence that followed in his conquests of women, to the ideal of a Donna Juan who would help anyone in need as long as that person didn’t try to hold her.
